Three cellphones were also seized from their possession, SP said.
He said Soni was native of Darihat under the same police station area while rest of the two were residents of Navratan Bazaar under Sasaram police station area, in Kaimur district.
“They had just entered inside Kaimur district when their car was stopped for checking liquor smuggling. However, police recovered huge amount of cash from their possession. It was a total of Rs 92 lakh,” SP said.
He said in February too, two men of Kolkata were arrested while they were transporting Rs 1.3 crore via Kaimur.
Ahmed said that the trio had picked up the entire money in Varanasi and were scheduled to carry it to Kolkata in West Bengal where it was to be handed over to another person.
“The trio were unable to produce any valid document justifying the money they were carrying was from a legitimate source. Looking at the scenario, an FIR was registered against them and they were arrested,” he said.

SP Ahmed said that income-tax department officers had been informed about the seizure of the seized money to figure out is source. “After initial interrogation, police had come to know that the money was related to gold business. The trio were being further interrogated to know more details about the businessman who had dispatched it and the one who was scheduled to receive it,” SP said.
