Newborn taken from Shivamogga to Manipal in zero traffic

Shivamogga: A four-day-old infant with leucocytosis, wherein one has more white blood cells than is deemed normal, was taken from Shivamogga to Manipal under the ‘zero traffic’ arrangement.
After doctors at a private hospital in Shivamogga confirmed that the child of Devendrappa and Supriya, residents of Bhadravathi, had the rare disorder, the parents were understandably perturbed.The doctors decided to shift the infant to the Kasturba Medical Centre Hospital in Manipal on Wednesday, and Shivamogga police was asked to make the necessary arrangements to ensure an obstacle-free commute for the baby.
Cops in Shivamogga coordinated with those in Udupi, and traffic across the 140km stretch between Shivamogga and Manipal was cleared to pave the way for three ambulances. The route that they took was via Thirthahalli and Agumbe Ghat.
An administrator from the private hospital in Shivamogga where the baby was born said that they did not have the infrastructure to treat the rare condition that the infant had. “The baby had to be moved to the Manipal hospital in two hours. The infant is now receiving treatment,” he told TOI.
