Nagpur: Two days after crossing the 500-mark for the highest single-day cases, Vidarbha reported another record high of 618 Covid cases and 15 deaths on Wednesday, taking the tally to 13,601 cases and 355 deaths. Nagpur with 305 and 10 deaths, and Amravati (132 and one death) were the major contributors in the highest single-day tally yet. The number of deaths were the second highest in a day, after 18 reported in a day on July 27.
Bhandara, Gondia, Wardha, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli didn’t report any death and the cases there were in single digits.
Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim recorded one Covid death each.
The number of patients discharged, 384, surpassed the new cases keeping the tally of those under treatment at 1,616 in Nagpur. Total 566 persons were discharged across 11 districts.
In Nagpur, most of the deceased were critical and in ICU. They included women aged 20, 50, 65, 68, and 75, a 58-year-old man and an unidentified patient. The district now has 4,792 cases with 109 deaths.
Amravati posted its highest single day spike of 132 cases in last 24 hours taking its count to 1,957. The previous high of 81 cases was posted on July 18. The death of a 55-year-old man from Varha-Kurha village in Teosa tehsil at Best Hospital here took the toll to 54. It was the 30th Covid death in this month. With 64 patients getting discharge, recovered patients reached 1,364. This left 539 active cases, including 15 taking treatment in Nagpur.

Wednesday’s cases included a 36-year-old doctor of the Super Specialty Hospital and a 38-year-old clerk of divisional information office here, which forced authorities to seal the office for two days.
In Akola, 36 positive cases and one death were reported. In the morning reports, 19 results included nine women and 10 men. The district’s tally stood at 2,524 cases and 112 deaths. It has 358 patients under treatment while 23 were discharged.
Buldhana recorded one death and 33 new cases.
In Washim, 26 new cases were found, 21 were discharged while seven tested positive and one died of the infection. Of the total 565 cases, 206 are under treatment and 348 discharged with 11 deaths.
Chandrapur reported a spike of 20 new patients, the district took its tally to 467. However, 293 of these patients have been treated and cured, with 174 under treatment. Gadchandur municipal council registered criminal offence against a Amravati returnee for infecting 11 persons in the town.
Gadchiroli recorded seven cases taking the tally to 563, with 229 active cases.
In Gondia, six new positive patients were detected. These include one each from Kudwa, Kidangipar and Morwahi of Gondia and three from Deori tehsil. Besides, four patients defeated corona and were discharged. Now, total cases stand at 264, total discharged 230, deaths 3, under treatment 31.
Yavatmal witnessed the death of a 65-year-old woman of village Kharus in Umarkhed tehsil who was under treatment at GMC Yavatmal. The deceased tested positive after death hence the day’s tally increased by one to a total of 901. Her husband died on Tuesday due to Covid-19. With today's death, the toll touches 30. There are 36 new positive patients across the district; 30 men and rest women. 26 patients got recovered and discharged on Wednesday. Total active positive patients are 344.
In Wardha, five positive patients on Wednesday took the tally to 193. A 60-year-old man from Arvi and four persons from city tested positive.
In Bhandara, just three new cases were reported while tally is 241.
