KANYAKUMARI: Miscreants tied a saffron cloth to a statue of former Tamil Nadu chief minister C N Annadurai at Kuzhithurai in Kanyakumari district on Thursday morning.
The Kuzhithurai police removed the saffron cloth from the life size statue. A special team was formed to nab the miscreants.
Efforts were on to retrieve CCTV footage recorded in commercial establishments in the vicinity and the three roads leading to the junction to identify miscreants.

This comes after saffronisation attempts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the last two weeks that created an uproar. On July 17, saffron paint was sprayed on the statue of social activist E V Ramasamy at Sundarapuram in Coimbatore city. Police arrested M Arun Krishnan, a Bharat Sena functionary, in connection with that incident. On Wednesday, he was detained under the National Security Act.
On July 23, a statue of former Tamil Nadu CM and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran was found wrapped with a saffron shawl at Villianur on the outskirts of Puducherry town.
Condemning Thursday’s incident, deputy chief minister and AIADMK organiser O Panneerselvam tweeted that the government would not be a mute spectator to such incidents.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko stated that casteist and religious fascists, who were dishonouring the statues of Thiruvalluvar, Periyar and Ambedkar, have now dishonoured the statue of Annadurai. He also called it an attempt by some forces to distract people and introduce harmful schemes. They should be immediately arrested and punished by the law, he said.

PMK leader S Ramadoss called it “hate politics” and demanded stern action against the elements behind such a "dastardly act".
Ramadoss He tweeted, “It is amounting to defaming the leaders. How it will benefit the person who committed such a degrading act?”
He demanded that the culprits be booked under the Goondas Act.
AMMK general secretary T T V Dinakaran also condemned the incident. He said the government should put an end to such incidents by taking stringent action against antisocial elements indulging in such acts.
