NEW DELHI: Three days after armed men barged into a Delhi University staffer's residence in northeast Delhi's Dayalpur and took away around Rs 14.5 lakh and 40 tolas of gold along with other valuables, the Crime Branch has arrested three criminals.
Police have also seized around Rs 3.8 lakh and some jewellery, DCP (Crime) Rakesh Paweria said. The arrested men have been identified as Mohammad Chand (30), a resident of Nehru Vihar, Javed (31) and Salim (19), both residents of Loni in Ghaziabad.
One of the accused, Chand, knew the victim's family and was aware of the cash and jewellery kept in his house.
He had taken a loan of around Rs 10 lakh and was under pressure to return it to the lenders.
On Sunday, Chand roped in his associates and barged into the house of 39-year-old DU examiner Sunil Sharma. Sharma and his 63-year-old mother were alone at home and were held hostage by the accused at gunpoint.
"We received information on Thursday that the accused will assemble at Chand Bagh to divide the booty and escape to Uttar Pradesh. Our team laid a trap at Wazirabad Road and caught three of them," Paweria said. Raids are being conducted to nab the others.
