BJP worker found hanging, police stops team’s visit
Panskura: A BJP team from Kolkata trying to reach Purba Midnapore’s Ramnagar — where the body of a party activist was found hanging from a tree on Thursday — was stopped at Panskura’s Ratulia, sparking tension in the area.
The Panskura administration had clamped Section 144 fearing that the BJP delegation’s presence may create a law and order problem.

The Ramnagar incident is the third in succession after Uttar Dinajpur’s Hemtabad and Ghoramara in South 24 Parganas in which bodies of BJP representatives were found hanging in public. Similar incidents were reported from Purulia during the 2018 panchayat polls.
The BJP team led by party state general secretary Sayantan Basu headed for Ramnagar hours after the victim’s family claimed that Arjuni booth president Purna Chandra Das was murdered and his body hanged from a tree against the primary observation of police that it was a suicide.
“We had no plans to hold a rally during lockdown. Police told us that Contai is under lockdown. But we were going to Ramnagar, not Contai. This is totally illegal,” Basu said.
Trinamool leader and Purba Midnapore zilla parishad member Anandamoy Adhikary said BJP was trying to create unrest in the area.
Police have detained two persons in connection with the unnatural death.
