Activists travel 170km from Hyderabad to Nizamabad to rescue dog trapped in well

HYDERABAD: A team of animal activists travelled over 170 km from Hyderabad to Sirikonda village in Nizamabad and rescued a dog that was trapped in an agricultural well for more than 20 days.
Following a call from toddy tapper Santosh Yadav, a team of five volunteers from Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) hired a vehicle and left the city to save the animal. Known for carrying out some of the most technically challenging rescues, the volunteers had to use rescue ropes and other safety equipment to go down the well which was about 70-feet deep.
"The dog was alive in that well for 20 days only because the toddy tapper was throwing food inside. It took some time for him to find someone who could rescue the dog from the well, but we are glad that he was able to reach out to us," said Pradeep Nair of AWCS.
"Once we located the dog, our team members had to go into the well using the safety equipment and bring the dog out of the well. The dog was quite friendly and it was heartwarming to see how it ran to the toddy tapper as soon as we brought him out of the well," said Nair. This is the second such rescue this month, where AWCS had to travel more than 150 km for the operation.
In another rescue, which took place in the city, animal activists saved a mother dog whose head was stuck in a grill for almost nine hours. The incident which took place in LB Nagar came to light after the volunteers shared the rescue operation live on social media. "It took us about 20 minutes to free the dog's head from the grill," said Paneeru Teja, an animal activist.
