Dimitar Berbatov names signing Liverpool should make

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has named the one signing who he thinks would be an excellent addition to this Liverpool squad.

He told Betfair (cited by Metro): "I see they’ve been linked with Thiago, and I like him, but if he comes, who doesn’t play so he can start? ‘He can play with Fabinho and [Jordan] Henderson and they will be even more powerful, but I’m not certain they need him.

"I’m not sure they need to change too much, maybe a centre-back better than Joe Gomez to play with Van Dijk.

"Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli would be an excellent signing, but apart from that the Reds have an excellent team."

Steven Gerrard invitation

Steven Gerrard has revealed he was invited to Liverpool's Premier League trophy lift but decided to stay home and watch it with his family.

I was at home watching it on TV. I was invited to go and be around the the players, be with them, but I thought the right thing to do was be at home with my family, and let the players celebrate and enjoy themselves.

The scenes were absolute fantastic. There was no happier house in Formby than my house, let me tell you. I was onboard and all in with Jurgen from day one – from the start he made everyone believe they were about to go on a special journey.

So I was immensely proud when I saw him deliver the title – and there was relief, from waiting so long as a fan and as a player. To watch what it meant for all those players and all the people around them was special.

The Liverpool legend was speaking on a documentary called Jürgen Klopp: Germany’s Greatest Export which is set to be aired on Channel 4 on Monday, 3rd August at 10pm.

The Aussie has previously managed fellow League Two outfits Crawley Town and Notts County.

Upon being announced as the club's new manager, Kewell told: "The one thing I think this club does need is stability and if we can get that then we can start to grow things.

"We've got to get back to the basics and we're having a 'clean slate' here now.

"I think the fans, myself, the owner, everybody wants to start seeing this club progress because we all believe that there's big potential."

Yasser Larouci interest

Leeds United are reportedly monitoring Liverpool youngster Yasser Larouci.

The full-back is claimed to have caught Marcelo Bielsa's eye with the Yorkshire club said to be keeping track of the teenage full-back.

This comes according to The Athletic, as relayed by Metro, who do however go on to suggest the left-back could be out of Leeds' price range.

As we reported last month Leeds and Brentford are two teams potentially looking to sign Larouci who looks set to leave the club this summer.

PSG join Thiago Alcantara race

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly set to join the race to sign Bayern Munich's Thiago Alcantara.

The midfielder has heavily been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks - with the German outfit having confirmed the Spaniard is seeking a fresh challenge this summer.

PSG are now claimed to be drawing up an offer of €30m for Thiago so say French outlet le10sport.

Thiago transfer strategy

German football expert Raphael Honigstein has said Liverpool staying quiet could be 'part of their transfer strategy' when it comes to potentially signing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Sky Sports, cited by This Is Anfield, he said: "Bayern have put a contract on the table, they thought he’d agreed, he changed his mind and at that moment, of course, the club are thinking ‘OK, he’s got a deal with someone else’.

“But that someone else has yet to reveal their hand. There has been no firm offer from anyone.

“I think Bayern are bracing themselves for Liverpool, because that’s the club he has been linked with and that’s the rumour in the dressing room, that he’s been talking about Liverpool.

“But we haven’t seen any offer from Liverpool coming in.

“Liverpool themselves have, of course, distanced themselves repeatedly from making a move for Thiago.

“Again, that could just be, at this moment in time, part of their strategy.

“But I think Bayern are now more or less resigned to him leaving, which I think is a big blow for them.”

Nemanja Matic hope

Nemanja Matic has said Manchester United can't let Liverpool run away with the Premier League again next season.

The Serbian midfielder, whose side finished 33 points off the pace of the champions, doesn't want to finish so far behind next season.

He told the club's official magazine (cited by the Daily Mail): "Me, personally, I would like to win the Premier League with Manchester United.

"I think that our club always needs to fight for the title.

"We always need to try to do the best for this club, which we are doing at the moment, and I think we cannot allow any club to win the league seven or 10 games before the season finishes. So we have to fight until the end."

Ismaila Sarr competition

Liverpool are reportedly facing competition in the race for rumoured transfer target Ismaila Sarr - reports have suggested.

A report from the Mirror, cited by Sportsmole, has claimed Wolves are tracking the talented youngster.

Sarr caught the eye last season, particularly for his brace against the Reds, and has been tipped for a move away from relegated Watford.

Wolves are monitoring the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Adama Traore - who has also been linked with a move to Anfield.

I guess we will have to see how this all plays out.

Looking fresh

Here's Liverpool Women star Melissa Lawley looking flawless in her new Nike shirt.

Oh and here's an exclusive for you while you are here. It is from Lawley, in her own words.

Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and having previously been at Arsenal and Manchester City it has helped me step up to that environment. Hopefully I can help push the team on and get back to where we should be.

It’s an extra responsibility now that I’m one of the more experienced players in the squad. But there are a lot of leaders in our team. I look lead by example setting high standards in training every day and hopefully I can be a person some of the other players feel that they can talk to as I’ve been there before. I’m a people person and if someone does need help, I can give them the best advice possible.

Napoli name Koulibaly price

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has officially set Kalidou Koulibaly’s price, insisting the centre-back will not leave for less than £81m.

The Senegal international has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

Kalidou Koulibaly of SSC Napoli in action

The Serie A side are open to a sale, but not on the cheap, with the Napoli chief confirming his side's stance on Sky Italia, cited by the Metro.

"Kalidou is a wonderful person and of course it’d be sad to lose him. Everything has a time and a place, even when it comes to going our separate ways.

"Having said that, we don’t have €90m (£81m) on the table and in any case, it takes two to separate."
