GREATER NOIDA: The street crime graph in Noida has started to rise again, with people coming out on roads. Over the past few weeks, police have received several complaints related to snatching and other such crimes.
On Saturday, two men snatched a mobile phone from a morning walker who was on a call in Sector 31.
"I had reached the area near Nithari village when two men on a bike snatched the phone from my hands.
Before I could do anything, they fled towards Sector 61," he said.
Rakesh Kumar Singh, the SHO of Sector 20 police station, said that the cops were looking for clues in CCTV footage. "The accused are being identified. We will arrest them soon. An FIR has been registered under Section 392 (robbery) of the IPC," he said. In a similar incident, a security guard was allegedly robbed of his phone and cash by three men who offered him a lift near Pari Chowk. Mrityunjay Singh, who works as a guard at a housing society in Sector 132, said: "I was waiting for a public transport at Pari Chowk when three men offered me a lift in their car." The accused started going towards a service road in Sector 150 and one of them pointed a pistol at him. "They not only took all the cash but also my ATM card. They asked for the PIN and threatened to kill me if I gave out any wrong information. After that, they pushed me out of the car," he added. An FIR for robbery was registered at Beta 2 police station. "The accused are being identified," an officer said.
As more people are out on roads, the past few weeks have seen a spurt in street crimes. In July alone, there have been five cases of robberies.
Only in one of the cases, police managed to chase the bike-borne assailants and arrest them on July 17.
