Noida: Day after factory collapse, owner held for negligence
A private contractor and a 16-year-old worker had died
GREATER NOIDA: Police on Saturday arrested the owner of an industrial unit in Sector 11 for negligence, a day after two people lost their lives when an awning with multiple iron girders and steel crust collapsed on the workers carrying out the plumbing activity on the building premises.
RK Bhardwaj, owner of TechnoFab Noida, was produced in a court that sent him to judicial custody for two weeks.
"Prima facie, he was aware of the condition of the building, but he had still asked the workers to carry out plumbing work inside, which led to the collapse.
A detailed investigation of the operations of the company and required permissions for the construction is underway," additional DCP Ranvijay Singh said.
While a private contractor and a 16-year-old construction worker had died, two other workers had sustained injuries in the accident around 7pm.
"The two injured persons are recuperating in Noida and Delhi hospitals," the DCP said.
The arrest came following an FIR against Bhardwaj under sections 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 (whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act) of the IPC, lodged in the wake of a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased labour contractor Janender (32).
Bhardwaj had roped in the other workers for the plumbing activity inside the building.
