PATNA: Suspected Maoists kidnapped Bhalui panchayat mukhiya, a money lender and a contractual teacher from Mananpur Basti under Chanan police station in Lakhisarai district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
However, the teacher was set free on Tuesday morning. He returned to the village and went to Jamui along with his relatives without even approaching the police.
CoBRA commandos of CRPF and Special Task Force (STF) team of state police were trying to locate the kidnapped persons and get them free.

Chanan SHO Vaibhav Kumar said the two were identified as mukhiya Ganesh Rajak (46) and a farmer Rajendra Yadav (70). He said Yadav also lend money in the village. “The teacher was identified as Ravindra Rajak, the maternal nephew of the mukhiya,” he said.
“Police suspect that the trio were kidnapped for ransom,” he said.
SHO Kumar said at least 25 heavily armed Maoists kidnapped the trio from their respective residences in the village. “They climbed down from the Gobardaha hills, which is hardly one kilometre away from the village. No firing took place. The Maoists did not leave any pamphlet either,” he said.
Kumar said the villagers told the police that at least 40 more armed Maoists kept vigil on the road leading to the village and the hills from where they had come. “We are trying to establish contact with the teacher who was set free to know more details,” he said.

Lakhisarai SDPO Ranjan Kumar said that the CoBRA commandos and STF team were conducting combing operation in the area. “No message or phone call has been received by the family of the kidnapped persons. They along with the villagers are not sharing any information with the police,” the SDPO said.
“Munger range DIG Manu Maharaaj and SP Sushil Kumar are continuously monitoring the situation,” he added.
