    Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal directs DGP to inquire into incident of clashes in Sonitpur

    Curfew is clamped in some areas in anticipation of breach of law and order. On Wednesday, Bajrang Dal supporters took out a rally from a temple to cheer the 'Bhoomi Poojan' ceremony of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. These people alleged that they were beaten up after they busted firecrackers.

    GUWAHATI: While army is kept in standby, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the Director General of police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, to inquire into the incident of clashes between supporters of the Bajrang Dal and a group of people in Bhora Singori under Thelamara police station in Sonitpur.
    Curfew is clamped in some areas in anticipation of breach of law and order. On Wednesday Bajrang Dal supporters took out a rally from a temple to cheer the 'Bhoomi Poojan' ceremony of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.

    These people alleged that they were beaten up near a Masjid after they busted firecrackers.

    Assam Police additional DG (law and order) GP Singh has rushed to the area. He said that an investigation is underway and two people were picked up by police for questioning.

    Stones were pelted on the vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner.

    Sonitpur's Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta told media persons, “No one gave slogan "Pakistan Zindabad". Rather people from the locality were cooperating with the police.”

    Sonowal said DGP will inquire into the incident. “I urge everyone to maintain peace and tranquillity.”

    Dhekiajuli BJP MLA Ashok Singhal said that this is a fight between Ram Bhakts (followers) and Babur Bhakts. “In culmination of a long cherished dream, a group of people took out a rally for this a day of celebration. Those who are saying Pakistan Jai cannot stay here.”

    He added that MLAs and other people of the area will meet the chief minister and urge him to initiate eviction of illegal occupants from the area.
