Delta Mayor Harvie launches new photo contest for kids

DELTA Mayor George V. Harvie on Thursday announced the launch of an ‘Activities at Home Photo Contest’ to encourage Delta kids aged 5 to 15 years to stay active and creative by taking part in activities and hobbies at home during COVID-19.

Whether it’s an art project, gardening, cooking/baking, puzzles, games, virtual story-time or sports, Harvie is asking Delta children and youth to take a photo showing their activity, along with a contest waiver form, as part of their submission. Parental supervision and assistance is welcome to help kids photograph their activities, especially for the young ones. A selfie of your activity is also welcome.

“Kids continue to inspire and impress me with their creativity and resilience during this challenging time. This contest provides an opportunity for local children and youth to showcase their favourite activity or hobby at home with a photo, hopefully inspiring others to do so. I look forward to featuring entries on my social media,” said Harvie.
Delta kids between the ages of 5 to 15 years can complete the contest waiver form and submit one photo showcasing their favourite activity at home using the City’s new Let’s Talk Delta online engagement platform at: https://letstalk.delta.ca/mayorphotocontest.

The contest entry deadline is September 14, and winners will be announced by Harvie in October. At the end of the photo contest submission period, the public will be asked to vote on their favourite photo submissions on the contest page at: https://letstalk.delta.ca/mayorphotocontest. Photos with the most votes will be the designated winners for each age group.

Three winners will be selected from the 5-11 years age group, along with three winners selected from the 12-15 years age group, for a total of six winners/prizes. Each winner will be awarded a gift card ($100, $75 and $50 denominations) from a local business of their choice as part of the City’s #BuyLocalDelta initiative.
