Assam cases cross 50,000, six more die

Six more Covid-19 patients died in Assam on Thursday, which has pushed the total number deaths up to 126. On the other hand, the cumulative count of confirmed cases crossed the 50,000-mark on Wednesday. The state has so far recorded 50,445 cases.

GUWAHATI: Six more Covid-19 patients died in Assam on Thursday, which has pushed the total number deaths up to 126. On the other hand, the cumulative count of confirmed cases crossed the 50,000-mark on Wednesday. The state has so far recorded 50,445 cases.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the five patients who succumbed to their infections on Thursday are from Karimganj, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Kamrup (Metro) district.

On Wednesday, the state conducted 59,162 tests, from which 2,284 samples were found positive for Covid-19, which translates to a positivity rate of just over 3%, the lowest since March 31 when the first case was tested. The total number of samples tested so far is 11,15,95 in 17 state-run and some outsourced laboratories.
Meanwhile, 1,471 patients recovered and got discharged from various hospitals on Wednesday. The state currently has 14,429 active patients, while 35,892 have been discharged and three have migrated out of the state.
