GURUGRAM: In order to prevent waterlogging along Delhi-Jaipur highway near Hero Honda Chowk, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is now constructing a 2.5km long drain from Narsinghpur to Badshapur to clear the accumulated water in low-lying areas and prevent traffic jams.
The government agencies including MCG, GMDA among others, which made tall claims about the arrangements to check waterlogging, had to face embarrassment in July end when many areas in the city witnessed flooding after heavy rainfall.

“The drain, constructed with expenditure of Rs 45 lakh, is almost ready and will be functional from next week. It will clear water accumulated on the highway and also prevent traffic jams" said chief engineer, MCG, Raman Sharma.
Talking to TOI, Sharma said the drain has been constructed with 15 days and it will divert the rainwater to Badshapur drain and clear the water quickly. Earlier, the sanitation staff had to pump out water from the low-lying areas using more than 20 pumps at a time, he added.
The official further said that the civic agency had recently identified 46 hotspots in the city on the basis of a survey conducted by the MCG engineers after city witnessed heavy rainfall in July last week. “Once the drain is functional, we are hopeful that it will not only be helpful in clearing rainwater but also offer much needed relief to traffic and commuters,” added Sharma.
