Robert Kirkman's Secret History of Comics

SBS Viceland, 8.30pm

The unstoppable cultural juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe began as ink and paper, with the lightning-in-a-bottle partnership of writer Stan Lee (pictured) and artist Jack Kirby. Lee's legend expanded over the years, the venerable spawner of superheroes becoming a familiar face as a cameo in the films that ensured he died a beloved and famously wealthy man. Kirby, however, whose artwork brought the Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America and myriad others to life, was more neglected by history, his contribution often forgotten amid the garlands lavished on Lee. This series explored the story of the Lee-Kirby team, and the question of who deserves the credit for the world conquest of Marvel. Great for comic nerds or anyone interested in finding out just how we ended up living in a comic book world.
