New Delhi: The central leadership of BJP plans to hold a meeting soon to discuss the recent attacks on party workers in Jammu and Kashmir, said people aware of the matter.

“We are concerned over the safety of our workers. Our workers are more vigilant than ever,” Avinash Rai Khanna, BJP vice president incharge of J&K told ET. “There is unrest in Pakistan ever since BJP exposed its sinister agenda before the people of the valley. Pakistan-supported terrorists are showing their frustration.”

As ET reported on Monday, the attack on BJP leader Abdul Hamid Najar in Budgam area was the latest in a series of attacks on party leaders in Kashmir.

This is happening at a time when the central government is seeking to restore normalcy in Kashmir, with an aim to conduct the assembly election as the situation becomes peaceful.

On Friday last week, Manoj Sinha, the new J&K LG, had said that he wanted to initiate a dialogue with everyone in J&K and would work for development of all sections of the state. A number of newly elected sarpanchs have been kept in safe accommodation in hotels of Srinagar. Khanna said there is a standard security procedure in Kashmir, where anyone who is on the target list of terrorists gets accommodation and security. He said security has been provided to leaders and activists from all parties.

Another BJP leader said on condition of anonymity that since the withdrawal of Article 370 last year, 30-50 lakh has been provided at panchayat level for the first time. “This is something that is making anti-India elements in the state unstable,” said the leader.

In July, BJP leader Wasim Bari from Bandipora was killed along with his father and brother. After the killing, state BJP demanded security for leaders of all political parties in the valley.

“It’s not just about BJP leaders but about killings of innocents. Ajay Pandita was a Congress leader but he was killed,” said Khanna.
