Coronavirus India Updates: India reported 53,601 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, after recording over 60,000 daily cases for four straight days, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.
The country’s tally rose to 22.68 lakh with addition of the new cases, while 871 fatalities in the last 24 hours pushed the death toll to 45,257, the health ministry data showed. Total recoveries rose to 15,83,489 and the case fatality rate touched 1.99 per cent. There are 6,39,929 active cases of coronavirus, comprising 28.21 per cent of the country’s caseload. According to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative of 2,45,83,558 samples have been tested so far, with 4,77,023 samples being tested on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday held a virtual interaction with chief ministers of 10 states to take stock of the Covid-19 situation. These states, which have 80 per cent of India’s Covid-19 cases, were Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. During the meeting, PM Modi said India was heading in the right direction, and that the states could defeat the virus by working together. Over 10 lakh Indians have returned from abroad after the government launched the “Vande Bharat” evacuation mission on May 7 in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava tweeted, “Vande Bharat Mission crosses the 1 million mark!”.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Tuesday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the state plan to raise testing rate for COVID-19 to over one lakh per day.
Kumar, who was joined by his counterparts in nine other states at the video conference meeting on coronavirus situation, said the state was at present testing more than 75,000 samples daily though the number of RT-PCR examinations which he called “the most important”, remained as low as about 6,100 per day, PTI reported.

“The RT-PCR facility will soon be introduced at five more medical college hospitals which would help in raising the daily average by about 2300.
The Railways has stated that all regular passenger train services will remain suspended till further notice, but 230 special trains will continue to be in service, news agency PTI reported
“This is to bring to the notice of all concerned that as decided and informed earlier as well, regular passenger and suburban train services will continue to remain suspended till further notice,” a statement from the Railways said.
“It may be noted that 230 Special Trains, which are running at present, will continue to operate. Local trains in Mumbai, which are presently being run on limited basis only on the requisition of state government, will also continue to run,” it said.
Kerala continued to witness a spike in COVID-19 infections reporting 1,417 cases on Tuesday, including 36 health workers, as the death toll climbed to 120 with five more fatalities. As many as 1,426 people recovered from the infection today, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters during a media briefing. At least 1,242 had been infected through contact and the infection source of 105 people was not known, he said.
The national capital recorded 1,257 fresh coronavirus cases, and eight deaths, the lowest in over two months, in the last 24 hours, authorities said on Tuesday.
This is the first time in over two months that the daily number of deaths has dropped below 10, according to the Delhi government’s health bulletin.
On August 5, Delhi had recorded 11 COVID-19 deaths, indicating a significant improvement in the situation in the city, news agency PTI reported.
The city has so far recorded a total of 1,47,391 cases, of which 1,32,384 people have recovered, been discharged or have migrated.
Successful implementation of containment strategy, aggressive testing coupled with the standardized clinical management of critical patients have resulted in the rise of COVID-19 recovery rate to nearly 70 per cent while the case fatality rate has fallen below 2 per cent, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
With more patients recuperating and being discharged from hospitals and home isolation (in case of mild and moderate cases), the total recoveries have jumped to 15,83,489 with 47,746 patients getting discharged in a span of 24 hours, it said.
The national recovery rate has risen to 69.80 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The actual caseload of the country is the active cases (6,39,929) which is only 28.21 per cent of the total positive cases and they all are under active medical supervision, the ministry said.
Around 700 people who recovered from Covid-19 in Odisha’s Ganjam district have come forward to assist the administration in persuading symptomatic people to go for testing and helping them with counselling to draw out anxieties related to the disease, PTI quoted officials as saying.
Ganjam district, the hotspot of coronavirus in Odisha, which has reported over 13,000 cases, launched a project named COVID Bandhu to rope in those who have recovered, officials said.
Sidharth Shankar Swain, project director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) said around 700 people have registered their names and many are already on the field, motivating people to get themselves tested.
At least 76 people, including 36 security personnel have tested positive for coronavirus in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the state’s total tally to 2,231 on Tuesday, PTI quoted a senior health department official as saying.
The official said all of them except nine people are asymptomatic. State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said a total of 322 security personnel have been diagnosed with Covid-19 since August 1.
The number of recoveries increased to 1,592 while 636 cases are still active.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Nagaland crossed 3,000 on Monday, as 230 more people tested positive for coronavirus, PTI quoted Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.
The state now has 3,011 cases. There are 2,027 active cases, while 973 people have recovered from the disease, and eight have died.
West Bengal on Monday recorded the highest single-day discharge of 3,208 Covid-19 patients, taking the number of recoveries to 70,328, PTI quoted the state health department as saying.
With 2,905 new infections, the state’s caseload increased to 98,459, while active cases stood at 26,301, the bulletin said. Forty-one patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the death toll to 2,100.
Maharashtra on Monday reported 9,181 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking its tally to 5,24,513, while the death toll crossed the 18,000-mark with 293 new fatalities, said a state health official.
The statewide tally stood at 5,24,513 with the addition of 9,181 new cases, while the fatality figure rose to 18,050 after 293 more patients succumbed to the infection. Also, 6,711 patients were discharged from hospitals, pushing up the recovery tally to 3,58,421, the official said. There are 1,47,735 active cases in the state at present. Mumbai reported 925 new coronavirus cases and 46 deaths, taking the tally to 1,24,307 and the toll to 6,845. The number of active cases in Mumbai stood at 19,172. Covid-19 patients under home isolation will be discharged after 10 days of symptoms onset or date of sampling, and no fever for three days, as per the revised guidelines for home care issued by the Karnataka government, PTI reported.
The patient shall be advised to isolate at home and self-monitor their health for 7 more days, the guidelines stated, adding that there is no need for testing after the isolation period is over.
Only those who are asymptomatic or mild symptomatic shall be allowed to be in-home care, as per the guidelines.
