Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Fresh cases continue to be under 1,000 in Chennai; death toll crosses 300 in Madurai
CHENNNAI: Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported deaths of 119 Covid-19 patients and 5,871 fresh cases, which took the cumulative toll to 5,278 and case tally to 3,14,520.
As many as 5,633 people were discharged taking the total number of people recovered to 2,56,313. There were 52,929 people under treatment.
Chennai reported 993 cases and 20 deaths. Chengalpet reported 439 cases while Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram recorded 407 and 371 cases respectively.
The Chennai region reported 42 deaths, including 11 in Tiruvallur.
The seven other northern districts together reported 942 fresh cases and 13 deaths.
Ten southern together reported 1,446 cases and 34 deaths. While Virudhunagar had 292 cases, Theni (282), Madurai (169), Tuticorin (157) Tirunelveli(137), and Kanyakumari had 117. Two districts Tenkasi (99) and Sivaganga (92) were close to 100. Tirunelveli reported nine deaths and Dindigul five.
The death toll crossed 300 in Madurai with six new deaths.
The central districts reported less cases and deaths compared to the west. While there were 544 cases in the central zone, the west had 715. Coimbatore reported 294 cases and Salem recorded 217 cases. Pudukkottai reported 147 cases and Trichy 135.
The eight western districts together reported 21 deaths. The central districts had reported deaths.
