America runs on … cereal?

Coffee and donuts giant Dunkin’, formerly — and often still — known as Dunkin’ Donuts, will soon release a pair of cereals based on the Caramel Macchiato and Mocha Latte, two of the Massachusetts-based company’s most popular drinks, The Associated Press reported Monday.

The cereals, a collaboration between Dunkin’ and Raisin Bran and Honey Bunches of Oats maker Post Consumer Brands, is slated for availability by the end of August.

The breakfast product will include Dunkin’ coffee concentrate, with each serving boasting about as much caffeine as a tenth of an 8-ounce cup of joe. The cereal will be made of small crunchy spheres that are mixed with bits of flavored marshmallow.

“Dunkin made caffeinated cereal so it’s on,” one Twitter user wrote.

Others dubbed it a product of the current environment: “Pandemic effects” or a “Pandemic Innovation.”

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Dunkin’ recently announced it will close about 800 of its U.S. stores this year.

Branching out into the cereal realm — when the company says about 90% of U.S. households eat cereal and about 65% of American adults consume coffee daily — makes sense then.

In fact, the upcoming products aren’t a first for Dunkin’, which previously dipped its toes into the cereal pool back in the 1980s.

At the time, the company launched a line of cereals inspired by its glazed and chocolate donuts. The upshot wasn’t as sweet as the sugary treats.
