    Tamil Nadu reports 119 deaths; highest spike in single day deaths, for the fourth time

    CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu saw 119 deaths due to Covid-19 on Thursday, the fourth time that it has touched this mark since the outbreak.

    On Wednesday too, the state reported 119 deaths.

    The total number of Covid-19 related fatalities now stands at 5,397, according to the bulletin.

    As many as 5,835 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, taking the total tally to 3,20,355 in the State, according to the media bulletin.

    In Chennai, 989 people tested positive for the infection. Among other districts, Chengalpattu reported 453 cases while Tiruvallur reported 390 cases.

    Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Theni and Virudhunagar had over 200 cases on Thursday, the bulletin said.

    Testing was marginally lower on Thursday with 65,560 people being tested for Covid-19 as opposed to 69,697 people on Wednesday, the highest so far.

    The number of recoveries stood at 5,146, taking the total count of recoveries to 2,61,459 in the State.
