Your Weekend Planner August 14: Good news from Kareena, Global Prayers for Sushant
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan announced their second pregnancy, Sushant Singh Rajput family and friends hold a global prayer for the actor on 2 months of his death.

Dear Reader,

It hasn't been an easy week. But which week has been? Ever since this virus entered our lives? Well, the silver lining is that it's a Friday, Russia has announced a (eyebrow-raising) vaccine, and there are two days to detach from whatever is going on, and be back on Monday. So what's been up this week? In Bollywood, a lot, starting with the Sushant Singh Rajput death. The case reached the Supreme Court and the CBI took over the investigation, but there hardly seems to be anything new. It's now a tussle between two state governments, politicians, Bollywood stars, common people and who not. Everyone has an opinion on the case; but that apart, Sushant's fans, friends and family from all over the world joined to offer Global Prayers for the late actor as the day marks two months of his death.

From Sushant, to Sadak 2. The trailer left the makers with a bitter aftertaste, given the kind of dislikes on YouTube it received. What came as a double whammy for Sanjay Dutt fans is the news of his lung cancer. Get well soon, Baba.

On OTT, there's a lot to watch this weekend and our section on that will help you decide what you can sit back with. Our pick from the bookshelf will take you back to Bennet, Elizabeth. Yes, it's Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice; and it's never a bad time to go back to the book. If a visit to the kitchen seems inevitable (it always does), try some stuffed tandoori roti, a la Neena Gupta. Burning those calories off should be easy if you follow our B-Town divas and hit the mat.

And now, finally, to the best part of this week. Bebo's baby. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan took all of us by surprise this week by announcing that they are expecting a new addition to their family of three. Quad-father Saif and glowy Bebo got a lot of wishes from their fans and friends. Some also marvelled at the marvellous use of the lockdown by Bebo and Saif while the rest of us were baking banana bread. Well. All we can say is we can't wait.

For now, have a good weekend.

Here's your Weekend Planner.

WHAT'S TRENDING

It has been a really, really long week replete with bittersweet news from the political sphere as well as the Hindi film fraternity. Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee's health worsened after a critical brain surgery but he is stable at the moment, as per latest reports. He also tested positive for coronavirus.

On the other hand, Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer on Tuesday as reports surfaced hours after he tweeted that he would be taking a "short break from work for some medical treatment". In the meantime, his wife Maanayata Dutt released a statement and thanked her husband's fans and followers for their good wishes.

Wednesday, though, was all about Kamala Harris; at least for the first half of the day. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden named the Indian-American Senator as his vice-presidential choice. It is a big deal since Kamala Harris is the first Asian-American woman and the first woman of colour to be selected as the vice-presidential nominee under the democratic ticket.

Soon after her nomination, Kamala's sister Maya Harris shared a video from her presidential campaign that features their mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris.

Kamala Harris, thus, trended all throughout Wednesday until Kareena Kapoor Khan and her husband Saif Ali Khan announced their second pregnancy. That's correct. Taimur's sibling is on the way.

As much as the internet was happy for Kareena and Saif, it thundered after the trailer of Alia Bhatt's new film Sadak 2 released. Millions of dislikes for the Sadak 2 trailer made headlines. In short, because, Twitter is holding a grudge against Alia ever since Sushant Singh Rajput's death. If you are not aware of the connection as yet, more on that in our movies section.

Now, time for an eternal love story. An industrialist from Karnataka honoured his late wife and installed her silicone wax statue at his new residence ahead of hosting a housewarming party.

Nice no? But what wasn't were the riots in Bengaluru on Tuesday night. A mob, furious over a social media post allegedly put out by a Congress legislator's relative, went on a rampage in the Karnataka capital on Tuesday night. Three people died. 145 arrested.

While discussing the week from soup to nuts, we almost forgot about the coronavirus katha. Nevertheless, here you go. India has more than 2.2 million confirmed coronavirus infections but the highlight of the week is Sputnik V, the vaccine that Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday. The Russian President said that his government had granted regulatory approval to the Covid-19 vaccine after less than two months of human testing. India and the rest of the world are not so excited though. Here's why.

Now, head to our next section, and just smile.

SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU SMILE

Kids. Yes, little kids made us smile the most this week. To begin with, a little baby went the extra mile to steal snacks from the kitchen. The viral video of the kid-on-a-mission will leave you in splits.

And oh, another video that's sure to make you LOL shows a boy crying at the thought of schools reopening. Watch here.

This week, we also celebrated World Elephant Day. And a video of a baby elephant playing with bananas left us delighted.

And lastly, we have oh-so-funny Diljit Dosanjh. The popular singer and actor had a hilarious clash with Alexa and the netizens couldn't stop laughing at it.

DON'T FORGET TO WORK OUT

Every week, we talk to you about working out and your favourite celebrities asking you to stay fit. Well, Mandira Bedi took things up a notch as she revealed that she completed her 365-day exercise challenge. The Saaho actress worked out daily for an entire year.

Sara Ali Khan rang in her 25th birthday in Goa. The actress also shared how she has been staying fit while holidaying. Let us tell you, it involves a lot of cycling and swimming.

Gone with the Wind

Malaika Arora, Esha Gupta and Urvashi Rautela shared glimpses from their yoga sessions with fans this week.

Ankita Konwar and Milind Soman revealed that they love to run in the hills during the rain and keep their workouts fun by mixing yoga as well.

Rakul Preet also shared a snippet from her intense workout session with actress Lakshmi Manchu. And Masaba Gupta asked followers to exercise as she shared her post-workout selfie.

Priyanka Chopra also shared an adorable picture from her and Nick's workout session and Tiger Shroff gave us goals when he posted a video of himself jumping 5.7 feet high in the air. What is your weekend workout looking like?

FASHIONABLY YOURS

Kareena Kapoor Khan's iconic pregnancy looks.

Kareena Kapoor Khan recently announced her second pregnancy with Saif Ali Khan and the world cannot keep calm. In the year 2016, when Bebo was pregnant with Tim, she changed the maternity fashion game in Bollywood. Kareena broke all the apprehensions and shattered all the preconceived notions about what women should wear while they are pregnant. The actress walked the ramp, wore ultra-glam outfits and flaunted her baby bump. As she gears up for the new addition in her family, we take a trip down the memory lane and reminisce her most iconic pregnancy looks.

FROM THE BOOKSHELF

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

This pandemic has become an overwhelming situation for many. While cooking and working out has been a favourite activity for some people, there are others who consider the comfort of books as their safe haven. And for them, we have a great suggestion. This week, pick Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice and fall in love with the author's literary genius. The book is one of the most popular novels of all time and centres around the story of proud Mr Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet. The book discusses several societal prejudices, friendships and romance with a dose of impeccable wit.

WHAT'S ON YOUR PLATE

Going out and having food at restaurants has become a thing of the past. Now is the time to become aatmanirbhar. So in case you were craving some stuffed tandoori roti, Neena Gupta is here to help you. The actress posted a clip in which she shared the recipe of making a tandoori roti with a stuffing of cauliflower, chopped green chillies and coriander leaves, and must we say it looks delish.

AT THE MOVIES

It seems like we're stuck in an infinite time loop in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. As we sit down to put our thoughts to keyboard and cursor, we realise there's little new info to share. Rhea Chakraborty's plea in the Supreme Court over the FIR filed against her by Rajput's father KK Singh is still going on. And it is a five-way street - with Rhea, KK Singh, Bihar government, Maharashtra government and the CBI all reaching for a piece of the pie. Only this is more like the irrational pi that doesn't end, but remains a constant. Also, many more weeks until it is fully baked.

Meanwhile, there's some bad news for Sanjay Dutt fans. The Sadak 2 actor has been diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer and is currently on a break from work due to health reasons. As he seeks treatment, there's close to Rs 735 crore riding on him with six big-ticket Bollywood films in the works. Sadak 2, of course, is ready for release, but then there's Shamshera, Bhuj: The Pride Of India, KGF Chapter 2, Akshay Kumar's Prithviraj and Torbaaz. Age kya hoga? Well, sadak lambi hai, dekhte hai.

Speaking of Sadak, the road ahead for the sequel to the 1999 film is not easy. The trailer of Sadak 2 just became the most disliked trailer ever, with 56 lakh dislikes on YouTube. The brewing anger among netizens against anything remotely nepotistic is the direct cause for this one. But there's more - Alia Bhatt's Koffee With Karan, anyone? Or perhaps the curious case of Rhea Chakraborty and Mahesh Bhatt. As a movie buff, we'd add another reason - the trailer was just awful. There, we said it.

But there's some fine news too. Taimur Ali Khan is going to be a big brother soon, as Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan announce their second pregnancy. And you know what's funny? While the Twitter outraged over Sadak 2 and nepotism, they lapped up this piece of news just fine. Kahaani mein twist?
