Bengaluru: Anjanapura likely to get Metro on November 1

BENGALURU: The Kanakapura Road (Yelachenahalli-Anjanapura Township) section is likely to get Metro connectivity on November 1, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said on Saturday — the first time officially disclosing a specific date for opening the line.
“The first 6.4 km elevated section of Phase 2 will be commissioned on Rajyotsava Day,” BMRCL MD Ajay Seth said.
The earlier deadline of August was delayed due to the exodus of migrant workers after the lockdown was lifted for the first time.In fact, the actual deadline was 2018-end. TOI had carried a report on July 3 titled ‘Manpower crunch may delay Kanakapura, Mysuru Road Metro lines’ .
BMRCL records show 90% of civil work on Kanakapura Road line — a 6.4 km stretch with stations at Konankunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli, Talaghattapura and Anjanapura — has been completed. Officials said trial run of trains is expected to begin by August 20.
Commercial operations will start after obtaining clearance from the commissioner of Metro rail safety. BMRCL is also planning to power the traction of the third rail in a few days. It has already issued a notice asking people not to come in contact with 33kv cables and the 750 volt DC third rail installed on the viaduct.
“The entire 72 km-long Phase 2 is expected to carry 14 lakh commuters daily after commissioning in stages from November 2020 to June 2024” said Seth.
BMRCL has recently commenced tunnel boring of 14Km underground section (Dairy Circle and Nagawara) at Cantonment Metro station. “Urja, first of nine TBMs to be used for the tunnel boring, was commissioned on July 30. The first concrete ring was laid on the eve of 74th Independence Day” said Seth. He said the underground section after completion in June 2024 will carry 4 lakh commuters daily.
