Naperville Firefighters respond to calls

Aug. 14, 2020 / Structure Fire 1400 Block of English Court / Caused by lawnmower stored in garage / Occupant treated at scene

At 9:57PM on Fri. Aug. 14, 2020, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)
received a call for the structure fire at a 2-story single family residence located in the 1400 block English Ct. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel including an Incident Commander and Incident Safety Officer to the reported address. PSAP also advised all 4 occupants who were home at the time of the fire to evacuate from the building.

At 10:02PM Engine 5 arrived on scene established command and identified smoke and a small fire in the attached garage of the home. Engine 5, Squad 8, and supporting suppression units began a coordinated fire attack by advancing a hose line to the garage.

Crews extinguished the fire within 5 minutes of arrival and the fire was contained to the area of origin. The fire did not communicate to the interior of the home and was limited to
garage. Minor overhaul and ventilation was conducted to expose any areas of high heat and remove smoke from the home.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team (TED). Station Coverage was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District, the Bolingbrook Fire Department and the Lockport Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire was found to be from a lawnmower stored in the garage.

One of the occupants from the home was evaluated on scene by fire department personnel, treated and released. There were no injuries to any firefighters while operating on scene. The building was deemed to be habitable and no occupants were displaced.

Aug. 11, 2020 / Structure Fire 300 Block of S. Julian Street / Caused by outside grill / Firefighter sustained minor injuries

At 5:31AM, Tues., Aug. 11, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident reporting a fire involving a single-family home. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire, this consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders. The General Alarm assignment brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel to the scene.

The first arriving fire companies on the scene, had smoke and fire coming from the exterior deck of the home and the fire was extending into the attic. The seven occupants of the home evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. Fire companies deployed hand-line a to the exterior of the home and attic to extinguish the fire, salvage, and overhaul was performed on the interior of the house, a search was conducted, along with smoke
removal, and extinguishment of hidden fire in the attic.

One firefighter on the scene sustained minor injuries, the firefighter was treated at Edward Hospital and released.

The Naperville Fire Investigators on the scene determined the cause of the fire to be accidental from an outside grill fire that extended to the exterior of the home.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and Transportation, Engineering, Development (TED), Nicor, Naperville Electric Department, and The American Red Cross. The Bolingbrook FD, Plainfield FPD, West Chicago FD, Wheaton FD, Warrenville Fire Protection District, and Plainfield Fire Protection District all provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.
