AGRA: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old man was allegedly burnt alive by his cousin in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday over some personal enmity. The man in flames ran out of his shop for help. Local businessmen somehow controlled the fire by throwing water.
The incident has been reported from a market near Dwarkadheesh police outpost under Uttar police station in the district.
The man has been identified as Rakesh Verma, a local jeweller.
He was doused in thinner (methyl) and set on fire by his cousin Robin over alleged personal enmity. The incident was caught on CCTV camera installed at the entrance of the shop.
Rakesh, who has sustained 90 per cent burn injuries, was first admitted to the district hospital and later referred to SN Medical College in Agra. Police had launched a manhunt for the accused.
Senior superintendent of police, Sachindra Patel said, “Rakesh Verma is in critical condition. He is under treatment at the SN Medical College in Agra. We are trying to record his statement. Primary investigation revel that Puja Verma, wife of Robin had committed suicide on August 12. The reason seems to be a family dispute. This transpired into attack on Rakesh. Four teams have been tasked to arrest Robin. The accused will be sent behind the bars very soon.”
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has slammed the state government over 'rise' in crime.
Akhilesh Yadav tweeted, "The leaders of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are raising serious questions about the law and order situation in their own government, while there is no stopping on the crime in UP. Now, we are hearing the sad news about a man from the business community being burnt alive in Firozabad. It seems the leadership of the state has gone into the wrong hands."
