PATNA: A grocery trader’s 36-year-old wife was allegedly shot dead while she was asleep inside the bedroom of her private residence at Mela Road under Triveniganj police station area in Bihar’s Supaul district in the wee hours on Wednesday.
The incident took place at 4am when Suresh Chaudhary (40), the husband of Neelam Kumari, went outside to relieve himself.

The incident took place inside his two-story house on the first floor of which a non-banking firm runs on rent. Police, however, suspect Chaudhary of foul play.
Triveniganj police station SHO Sandeep Kumar Singh said Suresh had alleged in his FIR that criminals had barged inside his house while he had gone to the bathroom outside his house.
“Suresh had alleged that he heard gunshots after which he ran back inside the bedroom to find his wife shot dead,” he said.
SHO Singh said Suresh had also written in the FIR that he did not suspect anyone’s role nor had he enmity with anyone.
“Suresh’s role in the entire incident is suspicious. He had a well-built house with a proper bathroom even then all of a sudden on Wednesday in the wee hours he chose to go to a bathroom which was outside the house and criminals barged inside the same day. More importantly, police found the outside bathroom locked and dirty,” he said.

The SHO said a medical board was formed to conduct a post-mortem of Neelam’s body looking at the scenario.
“Surprisingly, no bullet was found in the body. Two injury marks were on head. It would be clear only from the post-mortem report that if she was shot in the head or was hit with some hard weapon,” he said.
The SHO said police had also come to know that the couple were not in a healthy relationship. “Both suspected each other of having an extra-marital affair,” he said.
He said the couple’s 13-year-old daughter and eight-year-old boy were sleeping in another room when the incident took place.
“The daughter told police that her father was searching something in the dark when she woke-up and told her that perhaps the mother had been shot,” he said.
The SHO said police are working to gather strong evidence in the case before taking any action.
