Rescue operations at the Tarique Garden building collapse site in Maharashtra's Mahad town were called off at around 11.45am on Wednesday, two and a half hours after the body of a 63-year-old woman was extricated from the debris.

The Raigad Police have arrested structural consultant Bahubali Dhamane in Tarique Garden building collapse and have obtained five-day police custody after producing him before a court in Mangaon. Dhamane is a resident of Nerul in Navi Mumbai.

An operator of a heavy-duty excavator is being praised by the authorities and locals of Mahad town in Maharashtra's Raigad district, as he has been working virtually non-stop to clear the debris of a building that collapsed on Monday evening, killing 16 people. In fact, although the authorities called off the rescue operation around 11.30 am on Wednesday, his work of removing the rubble from the site is still on. (PTI)
