Raigad building collapse: One more body recovered, toll rises to 16; rescue operation called off

RAIGAD: Rescue operations at the Tarique Garden building collapse site in Maharashtra's Mahad town were called off at around 11.45am on Wednesday, two and a half hours after the body of a 63-year-old woman was extricated from the debris.
With this, the death toll in the incident rose to 16, while two people were rescued. The search and rescue operations lasted for over 41 hours.
Raigad building collapse highlights
In a report submitted to the state government, the Raigad district administration put the number of injured people at nine.

The Mahad Municipal Council has arranged Ambedkar Smarak to provide shelter to the people who were staying in the five-storey building.
Meanwhile, police have arrested one Bahubali Dhamane, the structural consultant of the Tarique Garden building. Dhamane was produced before a court in Mangaon which sent him to a five-day police custody. Dhamane is a resident of Nerul in Navi Mumbai.
The police had on Tuesday registered an offence against five people, including the builder and architect of Tareq Garden in connection with the incident.
