    Coronavirus tally: Tamil Nadu inches towards 6,000 mark again; deaths cross 7000

    The State recorded a record high in testing on Thursday when 74,388 people were tested. On Friday, as many as 73186 people were tested.

    Chennai: The number of Covid-19 positive cases inched closer to the 6,000 mark yet again on Friday with 5996 people testing positive for the infection.

    This comes as the State crossed the 400,000-mark in Covid-19 positive cases on Thursday.

    The total number of cases in the state stands at 409,238.

    The State recorded a record high in testing on Thursday when 74,388 people were tested. On Friday, as many as 73186 people were tested.

    The state reported 102 deaths due to the virus on Friday, marginally lower than the number on Thursday which stood at 109.

    According to the state media bulletin, 7050 people have succumbed to the infection so far.

    In Chennai, 1,296 people tested positive. The state capital has remained steady at around this level for about a week. Coimbatore and Salem reported over 400 cases for the third day in a row.

    Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Thiruvallur and Thiruvannamalai had over 200 cases each on Friday.

    The number of recoveries stood at 5,752 on Friday, taking the total count of recoveries in the state to 349,682.
