Madurai schools celebrate Teachers’ Day online this year
MADURAI: Even as the Covid-19 pandemic has forced all schools to remain shut, school students celebrated Teachers’ Day by paying their tributes to teachers online.
“With online classes under way, we are trying to encourage students to not miss out on any activity that usually happens if school was open. We had a special online assembly today for 40 minutes. In our school, students themselves organised everything, both senior and primary school.
A song and a dance were performed for Teachers’ Day,” said Aruna MV, senior principal and correspondent of Adhyapana School in Madurai.
In many government and aided schools, especially for primary and middle school students, drawing, poetry and speech competitions were held under the theme of Teachers’ Day.
Students submitted their entries through WhatsApp.
“We are always happy to be wished by students in any way. In our school, every year these competitions are organised for Teachers’ Day. So this year, we asked students to do the activities from their homes. We spoke to students over phone and encouraged. Recording a video and clicking photo by themselves was a new experience for them. Even speaking in front of camera without fear boosts their self-confidence,” said L Chokkalingam, headmaster, Chairman Manickavasagam Middle School, Devakottai.
