Kolkata: During routine train checking this afternoon, BSF South Bengal Frontier jawans apprehended two illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators at the Petrapole border in West Bengal. The BSF troops at the international check post intercepted an incoming goods train from Bangladesh near zero lines along the international border. While one infiltrator was found hiding inside an empty wagon of the Goods train, another person was found hiding under the wagon between the wheels of the train.

One infiltrator aged 85-years-old belonged to Jessore district in Bangladesh and the second one was a 40-year-old from Narayanganj in Bangladesh. During preliminary interrogation, the older Bangladeshi infiltrator claimed he was a beggar and hid in a cavity near the wheel under the wagon risking his life. He also claimed his wife and son are residing in West Bengal’s Burdwan district while two other sons are in Bangladesh. He paid 200 Bangladeshi currencies to board the empty wagon to trespass into India.

The 40-year-old arrested infiltrator claimed he was rickshaw puller in Kolkata; he had arrived in the city 15 years ago and travelled around Kolkata and Ajmer. During his stay in India, he had been arrested by Delhi Police and repatriated to Bangladesh. During a flag met today, both the Bangladeshi infiltrators were handed over to Bangladesh for further legal action.

Arun Kumar, Commanding Officer of 179 Battalion BSF stated that the troops were vigilant and are determined towards zero-tolerance against trans-border crimes. The South Bengal Frontier of BSF has also launched a campaign to fulfill this resolution.
