LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Metro resumed operations on Monday with UV technology for sanitization of tokens, the first in the country to use the technology. Arrangements have also been made to ensure contactless commuting.
Metro operations were suspended on March 22 in view of coronavirus pandemic.
“For the first time in the country, Lucknow Metro will sanitize tokens using UV rays to provide utmost safety to commuters.
Both tokens and smart cards will be functional for commuting,” Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation MD Kumar Keshav said.

About the standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on the guidelines of the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA), he said, “Metro will operate on normal timings (from 6am to 10pm) and 16 trains will run at an interval of 5 minutes and 30 seconds. The trains will stop at every station. Masks will be mandatory and will be provided on payment in case a passenger forgets to bring it along.”
“Trains and station premises will be sanitized at regular intervals to ensure safety,” he added.
Officials said Metro travel would be completely contactless. GoSmart cards would be used and there would be no need of cash exchange and standing in queues.
The automatic sensor at the gates will detect the card from a distance and allow entry. Marking has been done on alternate seats to maintain sufficient distance between passengers. Frequently touched areas inside trains like grab rails, grab poles, grab handles, passenger seats and door surfaces will be sanitized regularly.
