LUCKNOW: A man was battered to death by villagers in the presence of cops while he was trying to escape after shooting dead a school teacher in Rampur Bangra village of Kushinagar on Monday morning.
Superintendent of police, Kushinagar, Vinod Mishra said SHO of Taryasujan police station Harendra Kumar Mishra was suspended for his failure to control the mob.
He said the circle officer, city, would conduct a probe into the laxity of cops and added that two FIRs have been lodged in connection with the incident.

Narrating the sequence of events, the SP said: “Ariman Yadav of Gorakhpur reached the house of primary school teacher Sudhir Singh in Kushinagar. He introduced himself as a friend of Sudhir’s elder brother, Rajesh Singh, who also lives in the same house.”
“The family asked Yadav to wait in the drawing room and offered him tea. Sudhir was having bath and was yet to begin his day chores. As soon as he came out of the bathroom, Yadav shot him on the chest,” Mishra said.
Hearing the gunshot, the family raised an alarm following which villagers surrounded the house. In an attempt to escape, Yadav climbed the terrace of the house brandishing his pistol.
In the meantime, police reached the spot and climbed the terrace of a neighbouring house.

When the cops asked Yadav to surrender, he fired two rounds at them and rushed downstairs where he locked himself in a room.
The irate villagers, however, broke open the door and started beating Yadav with sticks. He succumbed to injuries before cops could reach the spot.
Police said a licensed pistol was recovered from Yadav which belonged to his father.
The SP said Yadav’s antecedents were yet to be ascertained and the cause of his rivalry with Singh was also not clear.
