Gujarat: Five die of electrocution in Gandhinagar's Santej

AHMEDABAD: Five people died and three suffered critical injuries when a giant ladder they were carrying touched a hyper-tension wire at an under-construction industrial shed in Santej area of Gandhinagar.
The incident took place at around 3 pm at Om industrial shed on Santej-Vadsar road in Gandhinagar.
The deceased were identified as Kartik Bise (18), Mahesh Dulera (35), Bhavuji Thakor (32), and Pankaj Vaniya (36) who all were residents of different places in Ahmedabad city.Fifth deceased was identified as a migrant worker Bajrangiray Narayanray (25) from Jharkhand.
According to an FIR filed with Santej Police by one of the labourers Gautam Bhagora, who suffered injuries in the accident - they were working at a firm named Om Fibre Glass at Milan industrial estate on Santej-Vadsar road when the accident took place.
"I have been working as construction labourer along with Dinesh Rot and Rahul Rot, who all hail from Dungarpur in Rajasthan, for around a month," said Bhagora.
He said that all the eight labourers were trying to fit a tin shed at the construction site. For which, they all were carrying a giant iron ladder. At that time, the ladder touched a hyper-tension wire and all of them suffered an intensified electric current.
Five of them died on the spot and three others suffered injuries. Locals called up 108 ambulance in which the injured persons were taken to a private hospital where they are still undergoing treatment.
Inspector Vanrajsinh Manjaria of Santej police said that a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is on.
