AHMEDABAD: If you have been looking for a 100% natural alternative to alcohol-based sanitizers to keep coronavirus at bay, a hand sanitizer made from `gomutra’ or cow urine is all set to hit the market next week. Amid the raging pandemic, a Gujarat based co-operative has manufactured a hand sanitizer made from cow urine.
Earlier, a Rajasthan-based firm had started manufacture and sale of disposable face masks using paper made from cow dung.

The product was showcased by Vallabh Kathiria, chairman of the Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog at the national webinar held on ‘Vision, Mission of Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog’ on Tuesday.
Kamdhenu Divya Aushadhi Mahila Mandali – a Jamnagar-based women’s cooperative society — will launch the hand sanitizer under the brand name Go-Safe. The cooperative has already launched two gomutra-based products during the lockdown – a surface sanitizer under the name Go-Protect and a room cleaning liquid under the name GoClean.
“We are in the process of getting a licence for Go-Safe from FDCA and are hopeful of getting the licence within a week,” said Manisha Shah, director, Kamdhenu Arthasetu, the marketing arm of the women’s co-operative. She added that the product has been developed at the Clinical Research Unit of Panchgavya Ayurveda (CRUPA).
Shah said the co-operative cannot divulge all ingredients of the gomutra-based hand sanitizer, but it also uses natural herbs like neem and tulsi. “A section of the society believes in the medicinal value of gomutra. We are hopeful of a positive response,” said Shah.

Earlier, Gaukriti, a Rajasthan-based firm that has specialised in making paper from cow dung, has distributed over 50,000 masks made from cow dung to people during the lockdown. Bheem Raj Sharma said that he had made around 80,000 face masks from cow dung so far,of which over 50,000 have been distributed.
Dung masks cost Rs 11 and Rs 13
Of late, we have launched it commercially. The two variants of the disposable face masks made from cow dung are priced Rs 11 and 13. Majority of these face masks were distributed to Covid warriors like those from the police force, doctors, nurses, sanitation workers and the like,” said Bheem Raj Sharma.
