BHUBANESWAR: National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted across the country on September 13 for admission to the
undergraduate medical courses in medical institutions. As many as 37,459 candidates are scheduled to appear the
NEET at 83 examination centres across Odisha.
This test conducted by
National Testing Agency (
NTA) will be held at seven cities of the state. These are- Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Angul, Rourkela and Sambalpur.
More than 15,000 students will appear for the test at 31 examination centres in Bhubaneswar.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made elaborate arrangements for accommodation and transportation of students appearing for the examination in the city.
"We have made arrangements at five locations in the city for accommodation of NEET candidates. Students coming from different parts of the state will stay there. We are also arranging transportation facility to take them to their respective examination centres in the city," said BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.
He said all Covid protocols will be followed during transportation of the students to centres. BMC will monitor all government guidelines at the place of accommodation like it was doing in the case of JEE Main candidates.
Last year, 33,797 candidates had registered to appear for the NEET at 54 examination centres in the state. This year, the NTA has increased the number of the examination centres in order to maintain physical distancing at the centres during this Covid time.
Students will go under thermal screening before entering into the examination centres. All the precautions and guidelines, which were being followed during JEE Main examination, will be implemented this time too, said the sources.
A total of 38,236 students from Odisha had registered with NTA to appear for JEE Main examination, but as many as 27,457 students had managed to appear the national-level entrance examination between September 1 and September 6. The test was conducted at 26 centres in state's seven cities. Around 28 per cent candidates did not turn up for the examination, sources said.
