Column: Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp for Life

Karina Delgado

It’s Halloween season and you know what that means. Halloween movies! I am a sucker for Tim Burton. His art style and movies never fail. Classics such as “Beetlejuice,” “Corpse Bride,” and “Edward Scissorhands” are must-watch movies during this season. The other day I was watching these movies and one thing that I could not get off my mind was Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.  Both actors appear throughout Burton’s films and appear in one together, “Edward Scissorhands.” I loved their strange chemistry on film and decided to look into both actors. Turns out, Depp and Ryder were in love back in the ‘90s. I was so in shock. I was so invested. I believe Depp and Ryder belong together. They need to get back together.

My heart hurts over the fact that they broke up. They broke up due to the pressure of the media getting too involved. Afterward, Depp would sob on Tim Burton’s film set over Ryder. Burton watched Depp grow and talked about how Depp has not been the same after Ryder. Now Depp is in a crazy defamation trial against his ex-wife, and Ryder has been with fashion company owner Scott Mackinlay Hahn for almost nine years.

They were meant for each other. Depp told People magazine in 1990, “There’s been nothing in my 27 years that’s comparable to the feeling I have with Winona.” The couple was together for three years and Depp even took it a step further and got a tattoo saying  “Winona Forever.” While I was doing research, I came across report after report saying the couple were madly in love. Depp was Ryder’s first everything, from first kiss to first fiancee, they were always together. There are ‘90s films of Ryder and Depp together that are too cute.

In my eyes, both of them are not married. Ryder should break up with her long-term boyfriend and go home to Depp. Depp needs to confess his love and get back with Ryder because the man has been in so many failed relationships. They obviously need each other. Tim Burton needs the two to be back together in a film. Even better, Depp should have a special appearance in Ryder’s hit show, “Stranger Things.” I believe that sometimes soulmates can come back together. It could be years and I want to hold this to my heart that they will come back together, no matter how old they are. I support Ryder and Depp for life.
