MUMBAI: Days after Sena workers attacked an ex-navy officer, the Maharashtra government has ordered a fresh probe into a similar incident in 2016 in which the then BJP MLA who is now an MP had allegedly assaulted an ex-serviceman in Jalgaon.
State home minister Anil Deshmukh on Tuesday said he has asked police to investigate the case of alleged assault on an ex-serviceman by Jalgaon BJP MP Unmesh Patil and his supporters in 2016.In a video message, Deshmukh said ex-serviceman Sonu Mahajan was attacked by then MLA Patil and his supporters.
Police allegedly did not register an FIR as BJP was in power in the state. Mahajan later approached the Aurangabad bench of Bombay high court, which ordered that an FIR be registered.
"The FIR was registered in 2019, but the case was never properly investigated," Deshmukh said. He said he received memorandums on the issue. "So I have asked the Jalgaon SP to probe," he said.
