‘Epic started a fire, and poured gasoline on it’, says Apple
The Apple vs Epic Games battle is on. While Epic Games CEO thinks that monopolies like Apple need to be stopped, the Cupertino-based tech giant seems unfazed by the accusations leveled against it by the video game company.
As per a report by The Verge, based on a 37-page opposition brief by the tech giant, Apple said: “Epic started a fire, and poured gasoline on it, and now asks this Court for emergency assistance in putting it out, even though Epic can do so itself in an instant by simply adhering to the contractual terms that have profitably governed its relationship with Apple for years.
This Court was right when it previously ruled that “‘self-inflicted wounds are not irreparable injury.’”
As per the report, Apple has said that until the case is decided, it will restore Fortnite on iOS as soon as Epic removes the in-app purchase option. It also says that Fortnite is not such a huge revenue generator for Epic on the iOS platform. The tech giant adds: “This lawsuit (and the front-page headlines it has generated) appears to be part of a marketing campaign designed to reinvigorate interest in Fortnite.”
The whole issue started with Apple banning Fortnite after Epic Games introduced its own in-app purchases system in the iOS version of the game, which, as per Apple, flouts the policies of the App Store. Epic Games then dragged Apple to court. Epic Games is strongly opposed to the 30% fee charged on the Apple App Store.
