NEW DELHI: The rich and the famous, who have long stopped flying commercial jetliners, will now be able to use a separate terminal at Delhi airport for their chartered or personal aircraft, with the operator of the country’s biggest aviation facility creating an exclusive terminal for the movement of private jets.

This General Aviation Terminal will support the movement and processing of passengers flying through chartered flights from Delhi airport. Such travelers are currently using a small portion of the existing Terminal 1.

The airport operator said the new facility offers exclusive city-side car parking and convenient access. The terminal is ready to cater to 150 private jet movements a day, including aircraft like Airbus 320 and Boeing 737.

“We expect a bulk of pre-Covid-19 domestic air passengers’ traffic to be back by Diwali, and General Aviation will have a significant contribution to it. The new General Aviation Terminal at Delhi airport is the need of the hour which would significantly support this growth,” aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who inaugurated the terminal, said in the statement.

The airport operator expects this terminal building to contribute substantially once the traffic goes back to normal post-Covid 19 pandemic.

“This terminal will cater to the growing passenger traffic when the aviation sector lands back to pre-Covid times and make their travel experience more convenient and comfortable,” GBS Raju, business chairman, GMR Airports, was quoted as saying.
