Karnataka sees DRDO lab at Shivamogga
Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa late on Thursday called on defence minister Rajnath Singh and urged for an independent Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) lab in Shivamogga, his home district.
DRDO already has multiple labs in Karnataka, most of them in Bengaluru.
"The ministry of defence has considered government of Karnataka’s proposal for establishing a DRDO research cell at Kuvempu University, but the State is expecting a full-fledged independent DRDO laboratory in Shivamogga with ample number of scientists and technocrats," the CM was quoted as having said in a state government press note.

Further, the CM said that the laboratory can explore natural remedial measures for military use from the Western Ghats region.
"The land required for the construction of the laboratory as well as the official quarters for the personnel will be provided by the State Government," the statement read.
