MADURAI: As many as 91
child marriages were stopped in
Dindigul district between January and August this year, said Dindigul district collector
M Vijayalakshmi.
The
collector addressed a meeting of Child Protection Committee in Dindigul on Thursday and said that immediate action by officials helped prevent the child marriages.
She said cases should be registered against people who were responsible for the marriages.
The collector asked village level child protection committees to meet once in three months.
Emergency number 1098 for child protection should be displayed prominently in all places.
She said the children’s homes in the district should be inspected regularly and medical camps should be organised in the homes once in three months.
