LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The Lake Tahoe Basin is under Red Flag/Critical Fire Weather conditions through 11:00 p.m. Friday.
California is extremely stressed for resources and it is important for residents and guests to understand the dangers these weather conditions present.
With 70-90 mph ridge winds and low humidity values predicted Thursday night into Friday along the crest of the Sierra, any spark could easily become a catastrophic wildfire.
A Red Flag Warning means no open flames are allowed including gas and LPG fire pits/grills and pellet grills/smokers. If you see any illegal fire activity, don’t hesitate to report it to 911.
This is the time for people to make sure they are prepared with items to evacuate and self-sustain for at least 72 hours, according to North Tahoe Fire Protection District PIO Erin Holland.
This is also the time to ensure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel and is parked facing out, your devices are charged, your emergency go kit is current and within reach, and that your family and pets are prepared and ready to evacuate. The City of South Lake Tahoe has a website with emergency preparedness information here. They also work with FEMA to alert everyone to emergencies through their wireless emergency alert program.
