Sony PlayStation 5 Launching On November 12, Price Starts At $400

It’s finally official – the next generation Sony PlayStation 5 will be out on November 12 priced at $499.99 for the disc-based version, and 399.99 for the Digital Edition.

Two days before this, Microsoft will be launching the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X at $299 and $499, in that order.

The Sony PS5 will be available only in the US, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea on November 12. India and the rest of the world will have to wait until November 19 to lay hands on it.

The console will be backwards compatible with the existing roster of PS4 games. At the launch event, Sony offered a peek at Spider-Man: Miles Morales and a Harry Potter-based game titled Hogwarts Legacy.

The former will be available on the same the day the PS5 is rolled out, while the latter will be released in 2021. Meanwhile, Sony has not announced whether it will be officially lowering the prices of the older generation consoles.

With regards to features, the PS5 embeds an SSD and offers support for 4K graphics at 120Hz, 8K graphics, ray tracing tech for amazingly realistic lighting effects and 3D audio. It boasts of AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics, an 8-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, 16GB GDDR6 RAM and 825GB space.

The PS5 is pretty big for a console at 15.4 x 10.24 x 4.09 inches, with its Digital Edition just a few millimeters thinner in comparison. The whole setup weighs in at 4.5kg for the version with the Blu-ray disc-drive, while the Digital Edition is 3.9kg.

Meanwhile, the older DualShock 4 controllers are not expected to work with PS5 games. So you’ll have to shell out $69.99 for the new one. It’ll be $29.99 for the charging station and $99.99 for the Pulse 3D wireless headset.
