MUMBAI: The city police on Thursday clarified no fresh restrictions on movement of people had been imposed and they had simply reissued an existing order under Section 144 of CrPC that will be valid till September 30. There was panic among citizens after news of fresh restrictions went viral on social media.
Shiv Sena minister Aaditya Thackeray also tweeted, “NO need to PANIC.
The order issued under section 144 CrPC is only an extension of the previous order issued on 31st August. No new restrictions have been imposed by @MumbaiPolice”.
An officer said a paragraph, mentioned in the August 31 circular by DCP (operations) Shahji Umap, granting permission for people to visit shops, markets, etc, got inadvertently knocked out in Thursday’s circular, creating confusion.
