NAGAPATTINAM: A 49-year-old
woman was murdered in front of her home at
Sirkazhi in
Nagapattinam district of
Tamil Nadu on Friday.
Police identified the deceased as A Chitra, wife of Ananda Jothi, a native of South Thiruvalluvar Nagar Second Street in Sirkazhi.
The
murder happened around 5.30am when Chitra was putting a kolam in front of her house.
Chitra’s neighbours found her lying dead in a pool of blood.
She suffered an injury on her head.
On hearing the neighbours’ scream, Ananda Jothi and his son rushed out of the house and saw Chitra beaten to death by unidentified persons.
Superintendent of police Sri Natha, Sirkazhi deputy superintendent of police Yuvapriya rushed to the spot along with station inspector Manimaran, sub inspector Loganathan. An inquiry was held with the family members and neighbours.
Chitra’s body was then sent to a government hospital for post mortem.
Inspector Manimaran said that gold ornaments from the woman were not missing.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an unidentified person attacked her with an iron rod from the back.
"We are investigating if the murder was due to any previous enmity,” the inspector added.
