Madurai youth’s death: SHRC seeks report

MADURAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report from Madurai district superintendent of police Sujit Kumar on the death of a youth whose body was found hanging from a tree in a village on Thursday.
The family members of the deceased, identified as K Ramesh, 20, said that he was taken to the police station on Wednesday for an inquiry and did not return home.However, according to the police, a team of cops went to the youth’s house to summon him and his family members to appear for an inquiry the following morning. They added that no one was taken to the police station.
The investigation was regarding Ramesh’s brother Idhayakani, who eloped with a minor girl on August 23.
“The matter will be listed for further consideration before this commission after two weeks,” the SHRC notice stated.
