Politics imitates comedy: Congressional Hits and Misses

Week of Sept. 14, 2020

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer tried his hand at some comedy alongside Jerry Seinfeld this week, and it went about as well as you’d expect.

With the political world becoming one big joke, it’s no surprise that SNL alum Maya Rudolph joined Sen. Kamala Harris for an online campaign event, and Jon Stewart once again proved to be the most serious advocate for veterans on the Hill.

Plus, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer and Minority Whip Steve Scalise tried out some prop comedy on the chamber floor, and no one was sure whether to laugh or cry about the White House’s education executive order.
