Parents of college-age students have enough to worry about — tuition costs, coronavirus safety, whether their kid can land a job post-graduation — without having to wonder if their teachers are spewing hate speech.
According to the Hill, Jennifer Mosher, a professor at Marshall University in West Virginia, felt the need to tell the students in her virtual lecture that she hopes all of President Trump’s supporters contract the coronavirus and die.
“I’ve become the type of person where I hope they all get it and die,” she said. “I’m sorry, but that’s so frustrating — just — I don’t know what else to do. You can’t argue with them, you can’t talk sense with them, um, I said to somebody yesterday I hope they all die before the election.”
Marshall is a public institution, so taxpayers are partly footing the bill for Mosher’s diatribe.
But while it’s the students who are supposed to do the learning, one pupil taught Mosher about the power of social media. Mosher’s screed was recorded and posted, and the backlash began.
If we could, we’d give that kid an A.
Mosher has been placed on administrative leave. Whether she learns the value of thinking before speaking, one can only hope.
