Out for a swim, three teenage girls drown in Ganga in UP's Kaushambi

KAUSHAMBI: Three teenage girls drowned while they had gone for a swim in Ganga near Kurai village, under Puramufti police station, in Kaushambi district on Sunday morning. The girls were accompanied by four other minors — three girls and a nine-year-old boy.
According to the police, the group of seven had gone to take a bath in Ganga on the occasion of Malmas.
While swimming, the boy Shiva entered the deep water and started drowning.
The girls entered the deep water one by one to save the boy. Hearing the cries of minors, the local residents jumped into the river and managed to rescue four of them, but three of the girls drowned.
The deceased Asha (13), Meenu (15) and Seeta (12) were residents of Noorpur Kurai village. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
The rescued children Puja (12), Malti (9) and Sanjana (12) and Shiva (9) are residents of Kurai village.
